The elegant lines of this sterling silver hamsa pendant surround a flowing branch of flowers and pomegranates. This new piece by Melanie Dankowicz is cut from solid .925 sterling silver and polished to a beautiful finish. The hamsa is an ancient Middle Eastern amulet symbolizing the Hand of God. In all faiths it is a protective signs and brings happiness, luck, health, and good fortune. The pomegranate is a majestic fruit that has been held scared by many of the world's major religions. It is a symbol of abundance and new beginnings. In Judaism, the pomegranate is a symbol for righteousness, because it is said to have 613 seeds which corresponds with the 613 mitzvoth, or commandments of the Torah.
Melanie Dankowicz began her artistic career in papercut and lasercut metal in 1994. She is inspired by the countryside of Illinois, where she lives with her husband and three children. Melanie strives to create striking and complex impressions, uniting traditional motifs with contemporary themes. Her metal and papercut art integrates Hebrew text and Jewish symbolism, bringing out the beauty of these symbols by balancing the flow of lines with the depth of space.
